Supplements for Radiant Skin

One of the big trends in recent years has been a push for minimalist makeup.
Bare skin is everywhere!
I don’t know about you, but I love the minimal makeup look, and it is even more fabulous if you have dewy, radiant skin.

Of course, topically taking good care of your skin is important. From exfoliation, to cleansing, treating with serums to moisturizing.
Each step is key for creating a radiant, healthy glow.

But what you consume also has an impact on the overall look and health of your skin. Since I get the question, “What kind of supplements do you use for skin?” frequently, I thought I would share my own routine.
1. Niacinimide: I have recently started taking Thorne’s Niacinimide Supplement. (While you may recognize this key ingredient from our Vitamin C Serum, you can also take it in supplement form.)

The recommended dosage I have found is: 500mg per dose, twice per day can increase the production of ceramides which improve plumpness and moisture in the skin.

In addition to improving plumpness, niacinamide can reduce the appearance of large pores and even out pigmentation. Researchers say it takes 3-6+months to notice a difference.

2. Hydrolyzed Collagen: Collagen is one of the rare supplements where you can take collagen to help your own body create collagen. I have been using collagen for many years, and I frequently change up my brand, but currently I am using Vital Proteins Hydrolyzed Collagen. The recommendations I have seen are 15-30 grams of collagen per day. (This turns out to be 3-5 tablespoons). I have linked this to Amazon, but if you have a Costco membership, you can typically find this at a better price than Amazon.

Collagen apparently works even better in combination with 5-15mg of Vitamin C, so just make sure you are getting this from your multi-vitamin.

3. Biotin: I have mentioned before that I love MaryRuth’s  Organics Women's Multivitamin + Lustriva Hair Growth, specifically for hair growth.  While I am taking this product, rich with Biotin, for hair growth, it is also impactful for skin and nails.

Finally--in addition to adding in supplements, if you are struggling with any sort of redness or inflammation of the skin, the removal of some food or drinks if a great place to start.

If I have too much sugar, fried foods or alcohol, my skin will “tattle” on me with redness or a swollen look!
Not nice:)

Perhaps I got away with some of these things in my twenties, but not in my 40s.

There you have it!
These are the supplements that I take. Let me know if you have a supplement that you adore.
